Dry clean or risk machine wash?

I have been trying to find a new, cheap, smart winter coat but have failed so far. Then found out my old old one still fits (yay!) but it's filthy.
The label says Dry Clean only, but the coat is 60% cotton and 40% acrylic with an acetate lining. I assume the lining is what makes it dry clean, so do I potentially save the dry clean cost and machine wash it cold and delicate?

    Well give it a go.

You wont be any worse off than you were before you found your old coat. Ie, needing a new coat.lol

  • True, but then I'd have to limit the cost of a new coat to what it would have cost for the dry clean. I think I'll give it a go. Although I hope it doesn't shrink, it only just fits :D

A dry clean is cheaper than a new coat! Though to be fair I often put dry clean only suits in the washing machine and they *normally* come out ok.

Not the ones I had my eye on ;) I saw a lovely 15 pound one in the sale, although it was a few sizes on the small side!

With that fabric it should be OK to machine wash, but - and it's a big but, it won't do any shower-proof finish much good.

I put my dry clean only cream curtains and my dry clean suite covers in the washing machine, came out lovely and saved me an absolute fortune.

By the way, what coat and what sale, I need a new winter coat. lol
