Why do I have to give the details of my existing supplier?

Some sales advisers are flipping rude though. After I switched away from Southern, I wanted to find unit prices to calculate a rough final bill and the only way I could find them was by getting a quote. This guy calls me 2 days later saying "you were getting quotes on our website, can I help.... Blah blah" I obviously said that I'd just left and wasn't interested sorry. I've never heard someone get so aggressive on the phone. He was so rude and insisted on finding the date and time I got my quote "was that not you?? Huh?!" Nonetheless I'm not interested goodbye...Sealed Pot Challenge #239

The losing supplier does not find out about the switch until the expiry of the gaining supplier's cooling-off period. At that point the gaining supplier's tariff terms, in particular any early termination charges, apply. To mitigate "slamming" (or erroneous transfer) a "sorry you are leaving" letter is common and is sufficient.
A telephone attempt at "retention" quite likely will stray into "mis-selling" territory (or be pointlessly ineffectual).0
