USB mouse

Just bought a replacement mouse for my laptop, it was quite cheap, but the feedback on e-bay site was positive.
It lights up when plugged in, but the curser will not respond, tried all the ports, still the same. Went into control panel and looked at the mouse settings, but could not find any reason for it not to work.
Sent it back to supplier and they said they had tried it on 2 different computers, and on 3 different surfaces, and it operated perfectly.
Has anyone got any suggestions as to why i could not get it to work?

No idea... but I randomly wandered into an Asda last week .... shuffled to the mouse shelf.... picked up a £3 SmartPrice mouse.... plugged it in ... all's well.

OP do your USB ports work with any other devices memory sticks perhaps? Also when you plug the mouse in do you get a dialog installing the mouse. I'm assuming its a windows PC.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

The other ports are ok with other devices, and no. i didn't get a dialog to install the mouse. It is windows, yes.

I think I probably got the same mouse, lol. It lights up all sorts of lovely colours.

I can only use it in the slot that I first slotted it into. It doesn't work in any of the other ports.
You'll have to speak up; I'm wearing a towel

Can you try a friend/family's mouse to rule out your PC as the problem?

I would just send it back and buy a branded Microsoft/Logitech/Dell mouse.

    1. Plug it in and go and make a cup of tea, it might be taking a while to install drivers. I've seen some USB mice and K/Bs take upto 10 mins to fully install.
    2. Make sure you've plugged directly into a port and not through a hub.
    3. Is your keyboard USB also? Try plugging it into a port diagonally across from your keyboard.
  • Try plugging it in then restarting your computer ,that somtimes helps the computer finds the mouse then .
