Hi,

I am very upset & desperately need any piece of advice..the problem is:

I booked a practical driving test for 21-03-2007 but later on as I was not ready for the test so changed the test date in time for a later date
of 25-05-07 using the online service.

However I couldn't print off the confirmation page as I was using a laptop and did not had access to printer.I was sure that DVLA system must have this
change implemented and was waiting for their confirmation letter.Despite waiting for more than 2 weeks I didn't receive the confirmation letter and when I called the customer service I was told that I never changed the date and was charged full fees and now have to rebook the test.According to them unless I would have printed the confirmation page they can't help me and I have to rebook it..

I am really upset with all this.48pounds is a lot of money and it is very
difficult for me to bear the charges again..I am in a very difficult
situation.I really can't afford it.Can anyone help me?what can I do?

I will be extremely greatful for any help.

Thanks a lot

When you changed the date from 21.3 to 25.5 did they e - mail you with the confirmation?

If you have this then e - mail it to me and i'll print it off and send it back to you then go to the DVLA / Test centre and explain the situation.

If you do NOT have an e - mail saying that they have changed it i would go on - line. Get the help desk number. Explain that you changed your test date from 21.3 - 25.5 using the online system and that THIS has failed. You fulfilled your requirements in terms of changing the date using the facilities availiable, however the system didn't work their end.

    Hope this helps...

As if taking your test wasn't stressful enough?

  • Or instead of emailing somebody on the net your personal details, access your emails on a library computer or internet cafe and print it off there.

I think that you are at the liberty of their goodwill. To be honest they probably get loads of people who miss there test for whatever reason who then try to claim that they changed it on line and didnt hear anything back. Not saying that this is your intention at all, but the reality s that I expect that their terms probably advise you to print out the page anyway, and you havent done that.

For future reference you could take a screen shot and paste the image into word or something for printing later if you needed to, but not much help this time. Best I can suggest is that you send a nice polite letter explaining the situation and maybe they will take pitty on you

i lost out on a test fee years ago because i was hospitalised (was pg and bp went so high they wouldnt let me out of the doctors without someone to drive to hospital let alone take the test)

I rang and spoke to someone who was really helpful - i didnt persue it as at the time i was really ill but they needed me to send in dr letter etc.... concrete proof of the reason i wasnt able to take the test.

I would try a polite letter but really i dont hold out much hope.

Dont let this put you off - keep focusing on passing your test. Good luck with it.

Taney, i think i know what happened. I was told to book the first available test and my driving instructor said it was easy to change the date online, so i did.

I tried to change the date, but clicked on the wrong button,(sorry cannot remember which is the right one to click) didnt find any other dates and received a confirmation in the post of the original date, and you have three attempts of changing dates so this was one of mine used up.

I think this is what happened to you, you need to save the changes, otherwise it will still have the original date in its system.
