I have been looking at cars and one that I was surprisingly taken with was the Honda Jazz. Did not look much in pictures but if you look up some reviews of it on youtube they have lots of space for carrying stuff. Looks like the best ones are the ones after 2008 facelift.

  • Skoda Fabia diesel - not the nicest to look at but very economical
"Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!
  • TBH before anyone can give you a sensible answer, we'd need (amongst possibly other things):
    A: Budget
    B: Mileage you cover.
C: Type of roads you would cover this mileage on ..... rural? Urban?
Other things - well, I see you mention room for a buggy SO ... car seats for example; in my previous Jazz, though it had Isofix etc. the car seat for little one didn't fit as well as it does in my Corsa (though my Jazz was in many ways great).
Road Tax, insurance costs, service/spares costs etc. are also important if you're on a budget, as is the "biggie" - reliability.
    ;)
Example: My Corsa is a diesel - but I do over 10K/year mileage.
    Cheap insurance.
Not THE most reliable make maybe BUT .... so cheap for parts.
    Cheap tax.
    Over 60 mpg average.
As compared to my Jazz, same age:
Insurance ... a little more than the Corsa. (Depends on age etc.)
Ultra-reliable ... well, not always. Needed a new catalytic convertor at 10 years old; not cheap. Ate tyres (though our poor local roads admittedly don't help).
Tax ... higher band than Corsa Diesel.
45 mpg average (though computerised display ALWAYS estimated higher at about 50).

So, let the forum know a little more & I'm sure you'll be inundated :D
BTW, a buggy fits in a Corsa no probs .... or mine did!

    oops thanks !

    up to 5k
I do mainly round town sort of miles, approx 10k a year
I have older children myself who do not need carseats .... but I am a Nanny and so 4 days per week I need to fit 1 x 9 month - 4 yrs carseat in ,and 1 day per week need room in the back for 2 x carseats
Not "on a budget" as such for repairs etc ,just want something smaller, cheaper to run etc

Small on the outside but like a tardis on the inside. They have been designed to be very practical and provide really very flexible accommodation. They are reliable and have low depreciation because they're so good, however the servicing costs are slightly higher than the competition. A very good car.

Another tardis car is the Ford C-Max, which should be in your budget - on the outside it's the same size as a Ford Focus and on the inside it has a boot bigger than a Range Rover, plus most of them have the flexible seating option which moves the rear seats back and gives rear seat passengers huge amounts of room. Running costs will be higher than a Honda Jazz or Toyota Yaris though.
