PPI - no paperwork/unsure if had

Hi I am hoping someone may be able to help me, I am new to this site so apologise if anything already posted previously which would answer my questions.

I have over the years had many loans and recall at that time being told I would be more likely to get said loan if took out PPI. I have no paperwork what so ever, am I still able to go ahead with claiming? I have registered with credit reference agency and have sight of various loans etc I have had in the last 10 years, is this sufficient? I have looked at the template letter for terms and conditions and to enclose a £1, as these accounts are from some time ago do you feel it would be more beneficial to send £10 for all the account information?

Sorry for so many questions!

Your best bet would be to phone the banks and see if they can find your accounts and ask if they had PPI. All you need to make a claim is account number and a strong and verifiable reason for mis sell.

Do not send off for the T&C as they will not send them out for closed accounts.

If they fob you off then you could then send them a SAR letter at a cost of £10.

The most important reclaim issue is why you think it is mis sold - hearsay is only your word against theirs.

This is the weakest kind of complaint because it is impossible to prove.

Just as an aside, you are claiming to be certain you recall this happening for all your many loans but don't know for sure that you even had PPI? It's this kind of contradiction which will lead to a swift rejection by your lenders, I'm afraid.

Better to do some proper research. Find out what loans had PPI (if any) and look for valid and verifiable complaint reasons. Be completely honest in your complaint and don't use hearsay reasons.
  • Sorry to be harsh but sounds like you are just trying your luck has many people do.

People should only be claiming for PPI if its a geninue claim everyone else who claims is just costing everyone else more money in the longrun.

    Rant over.
  • I have a very similar question so I can understand the OP question. Mine relates more to whether i have had PPi without knowledge. I too have had a number of credit accounts (loan / CC / car finance) each time i declined the PPI but is there a way of checking whether this was just included anyway?

Ask your lender or (for credit card) look on your statements.
PPI was not randomly added to accounts without the permission or knowledge of the holder, despite what cold calling claims companies may say...
