looks ample for the job to me, if it's only for documents then a 128m would do

do rely on them for permanent back ups though !!

For 100 pages of text, couldn't you just email it to yourself? (Though you may find a USB stick useful for other things).

Like Browtoa says, they shouldn't be relied on as long term storage, but they certainly are reliable. I've had one for over a year rattling around my rucksack with no cover over the connector and it's been fine (PQI 128mb also from ebuyer £13.51). The ebuyer one you looked at seems fine and a bit of a bargain for 256mb. I paid £22 for mine a year ago and thought it was a great buy!

If you don't want to spend any money then the suggestion of emailing it to yourself is the best idea. You could zip the file to make it smaller and easier to send.

Another idea might be to get an mp3 player that also double up as a flash drive - more expensive, but dual purpose. Ebuyer have a few of those too.

Has anyone forgotten the good old floppy disk? I know that not all computers have 3.5" disk drives these days but, then again, even those computers with USB ports do not necessarily support USB devices.

For instance, Hull City libraries have a version of Windows that does support USB, whereas those computers in East Riding libraries have USB ports but their version of Windows (Windows 2000 I believe) does not support USB.

USB drives are more reliable than floppies though and, by keeping one on your keyring, it is always at hand no matter where you are.

When I got my new computer I actually transferred a lot of data to my new computer using a USB drive, rather than physically moving internal hard disk drive.

If you get a large USB dribe (IGB) you may be able to copy entire CD-ROMS (subject to any licence limitations though).

Everything from 98 up supports USB (95 OSR2.1 is supposed to support USB but doesn't do a very good job).

    NT4 doesn't support USB.

98 Needs drivers for flash drives (specific for each flash drive).

Flash drives are handy for carrying things around and much more reliable than floppy disks. However, because they are easy to carry they can be easily lost....

If your company is paying for this. Get yourself a little MP3 player that will act as a flash drive as well. Then if the boss is having a bad day, you can stick the headphones in your ears and not have to listen to him. What a bonus! lol
