Going over you overdraft

Hi peeps

I went over my overdraft by a couple of pound the other day, and was obviously charged for this. My wife banks with Lloyds, and they have a thing where if you go over by less £10, you do not get a charge. I was thinking of moving to them, but I was just wondering if they do that if you go over your overdraft? e.g. if my overdraft is £100, if i go to -£105, will I still not be charged? Does that make sense? :P

As soon as you go into an unarranged overdraft, you pay extra - - the buffer only applies to arranged overdrafts. EDIT: that's actually not correct - - - but best read the following doc

There is lots of detail in the Lloyds charges document http://www.lloydstsb.com/media/lloydstsb2004/pdfs/banking_charges_brochure.pdf

Great, that document cleared things up, thank you :)
  • I haven't read the document on the link so perhaps this doesn't apply any more, but my partner is with Lloyds and if he goes over his arranged overdraft fee but replaces that money by 3pm on the same day, he will not be charged.

At least that's how it used to work, maybe not anymore!

I think Halifax are owned by Llyods, if so then yes, as long as its replaced the same working day then you won't get charged.

Yeah, I get that with my bank as well.
  • Yes you have until 3.30pm to put right your account so that no charges apply for a authorised or unauthorised overdraft.

There is a £10 buffer so if you have no OD on the account you can go to -£10 with no charge. If you have a authorised OD then it is whatever the Authorised OD is + £10

Just because one bank is owned by another doesn't automatically mean their accounts work the same way.
