Hi all,
I got a phonecall yesterday inviting me to a recruitment day at Argos on Thursday at 10am. The lady said it will be a group interview and then if that went well a one on one interview.
Does anyone have any recent experience of this? I had a search but the topics i saw were fom a couple of years ago.
It is for a christmas temp job...what are the chances of being kept on permanent?
Also, what kind of thing would you wear?
Thanks

I would expect some group tasks and individual tasks looking at your attention to detail, how innovative you are etc. It will probably be based around their company values.
The best advice I can offer would be to make sure you contribute to all tasks but don't take over them, and enjoy it.
Dress code - smart, always better to over dress than under dress, you can always remove a jacket etc.
Chances of perm will be down to your work ethic in the job and the roles available when it comes to an end. There is no "chance" it's down to the situation.
Good luck.0 -
Chances of being kept on are slim to no chance but never say never, good luck hope you get a job.0

Thanks guys.
I actually already have a job which is where i have a quandry! I have been looking for something for sometime with 'better' hours to suit me more than what i currently have.
The job i have is part time and is in the evenings so i have been looking for daytime hours.
I guess i was just wondering if anyone who had been a xmas temp before whether they had been kept on or not:coffee:0 -
I have been an xmas temp twice and have been let go both times on or around new years day. I have been called back by the company then only given a temporary contract.
I was promised to be taken on but that never happened so I guess my experience has clouded my judgement on xmas jobs. If I were you OP I would look for something more than temp xmas work if the job you already have is permanent even if it is part time, would be better than being unemployed come january.0 -
I worked there about 10 years ago, originally as a temp. At the time a few people I knew were also interviewed and I was the only one who managed to get through!
I advise you to practise beforehand, they will probably ask you to give examples of good customer service, bad customer service etc so have your ideas ready in your head (try to say something original and interesting)... They might ask you to do a little roleplay where they are the customer and you are the staff so just pretend its a game and give it your best shot. Also give examples of your great customer service in your present job
Try to stand out from the crowd and look enthusiastic, smiley and friendly.0 -
I'm not a fan of these group interviews. Found them to be artificial and not a good medium to sell yourself. We are rarely in this life thrown into a random group and expected to do a task. How I work with the teams in my office is now very different from the first day I worked with them.
Say what you will and one to one interviews, you can get a word in edge ways without a blowhard taking over and drowning you out.0 -

I got my first job at Index (Littlewoods' attempt at beating Argos at their own game) by walking in an asking for an application form. Which I them filled out (because the manager asked me to do it there and then, and I had nothing else to do for the next half hour). It was only when he said, "we'll need your bank details to pay your wages into" that I realised that I'd just been given a job. At this point I must point out that I'd just helped my parents unload several car loads of removed shrubbery and was still shedding plant material the whole time....
If you can read, type numbers, and be reasonably good at suggesting alternatives for out of stock items, you should be ok. If you are in the stock room, being able to stack a huge number of differently shaped items into not very much space is a very useful skill to have, when they start ramping up stock levels for Christmas. Its a bit like a three dimensional Tetris with a hundred different shapes....0 -
