My DD is seven and is hugely into barbies.
I really think that maybe a trip out would be nice for them, somewhere you would never usually go.
A day in London and a trip on the London eye and then a nice dinner? That's the sort of thing my DD would love0 -

They do fabulous personalised books. I have given some as gifts which have proved to be really popular! Plus they are a nice keepsake for the future."Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?" (Douglas Adams)0 -
With all the high value kids gadgets out there sometimes it is easy to forget how much play value a 7 or 8 year old would get from more basic "toys";
Board games, buckaroo, Jenga etc
art and craft stuff
Plastercene
Lego, mecarno
Kites and footballs
Dolls and accessories
Books, comics
You'd get quite a lot of the above for £50 and would give them several boxes to open on Christmas day.0 -
For my boys (9 and 7) it'd be anything football related. The younger one still likes Lego. Tbh the eldest one isn't really into toys anymore - it's gadgets or football.
A couple of board games would be good (joint present, but decent sizes
)
Magazine/comic subscription? Mine have had subscriptions to Match magazine and love getting it each month (use Tesco club card vouchers?)Slightly worn out mum to 3 (DS1 May 03, DS2 Feb 05, DD1 Feb 08). When i grow up i think i'll become a UN Peace keeper....0 -
Fliker 3 scooters are £39.99 delivered in green until tomorrow they are usually much more. I'm getting one for my eight year old dd. How about a hamper of board games- then you actually spend family time playing them. Not sure how much but what about an annual membership to somewhere they love, or Merlin so they can go to sea life etc.0

My son at this age liked lego and k'nex. Anything that you constructed though he preferred to build his own designs rather than the kits the majority of his friends liked.
My daughter at 7 liked build a bear. Is better for them to have the experience of choosing their own bear, watching him be stuffed and choosing an outfit etc. On the occassions I let her do this, I've had little change from £50!0 -
Maybe you could find some nice things here? http://www.dotcomgiftshop.com/christmas-gifts
They're pretty good for not too expensive gifts.
