Probs wth CarJet in Palma Airport

Options
We booked with Carjet two cars at Palma Airport. They were definately the cheepest. As they are an intermediatery we actually obtained the car from Europa Car Hire. When we got off the plane we queued for 45 minutes to get the paperwork processed. If you have booked a CarJet car at Palma I suggest someone from your party picks up the luggage whilst someone goes to the Europa Car Hire Desk (the car hire companies have desks in the arrivals section- the other companies were empty so it tells you how popular Carjet is). When we went to pick up the keys for the cars, they didnt have a baby seat and we were told we would have to wait half an hour (this was already pre-booked by us in the UK) as they had none available. After half an hour the person pulled a baby seat from an old store cupboard and managed to get that to work (obviously none had been returned in the last half hour). From start to finish we spent 1 1/4 hours getting our hire cars. The baby seat issue is not a one-off because a neighbouring German family complained that Europa tried to give them a broken baby seat so they werent impressed either. I suppose you get what you pay for.

This is one area of travel that seems to be totaly unregulated. These car hire companies seem to do what they like
.A couple of years back I prebooked a car at Treviso (Near Venice) on taking it back, the bill was double what Id been quoted.
No amount of arguing reduced it one penny
  • we booked car hire for palma i think it was carjet. Anyway when we got there the queue was huge and it didn't move for about 20 mins as there was only one girl on the desk and about 30 families waiting. So at the risk they'd take the money from my credit card if we didn't have the car we went to a different (empty desk) were seen straight away and got a better deal. Next time I think we'd just book car hire on arrival.

Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.

Booked CarJet through All-Inclusive (--> Europa) two weeks ago at Palma Airport. The car and baby seat were there.

One thing they ask you to do is pay for a tank of Petrol. For a FOrd Focus they charged 48 euros. THat seems pretty high to me. They tell you to bring it back empty, but that's pretty hard - and in our case we only ended up using 3/4 of a tank, try as we could to run out the tank.
Not sure I would use them again.

We have used carjet many times from Malaga, and had no problems at all.

It is annoying having to pay for the full tank of petrol, but they are still the best deal. T

he other thing we like is that fully comprehensive insurance is included - no having to pay out if someone scratches your car in a car-park!

  • I recently used carjet for hire from Paphos, Cyprus. Car came from Sixt. As other correspondents have said, they carge you for tank of fuel and advise you to bring back empty. The price they charged seemed pretty fair. First car I got (Suzuki Vitara softtop) was very dirty and cover supports were partly held together with wire. I got fed up and took it back after a couple of days. Second one smoked after a short journey - they had left oil filler cap off and oil was all over the engine! I complained to Sixt and emailed Carjet while still in Cyprus. I have to say Carjet were very responsive in giving a fair refund. The end of the story was that I then hired a car locally from Europcar - this was externally scruffy, was delivered with an engine warning light on and ran poorly at low revs. May be I was unlucky, but impression is that service and standard of cars there isn't great. So, in summary, things went wrong, but Carjet were fast and fair in responding.
  • Booked car hire through CarJet at Palma. Arrived at 11pm... and no queues - because the desk was closed and the shutters were down even though they were expecting up. A neighbouring Hertz Car Hire Rep signed a piece of paper saying that they were closed at that time they were expected us and so took a very expensive taxi to the hotel. Next day collected the car back at the airport, though the CarJet rep insisted that the desk was open at that time the previous night. Not very happy but took the complaint up w/ Carjet who refunded the taxi fare and the car hire charge.

I use Record rent a car at Palma, book on the net - prices reasonable, and no long queue, (No baggage so not sure what is like later.)

    main site

    Palma reservations
    http://www.recordrentacar.com/reserve_cars_presentation.asp?destination=PMA

5 days hire in Feb was only £12 pr day all in insurance the lot, booked the cheapest car, and got upgraded to a Picasso ! You also get a 2 hour grace period, so if you hire Noon to Noon, it does not have to be back until 14:00 (though check this in case it has changed)- also if you join the club you get money off the next time on your car hire

Currently Ford KA cheapest april 17th -24th 127Euros approx £90

Re Petrol - you bring the car back with the same petrol reading that you started with.

You can reserve a car, they do not take payment until you are there, just do not take advantage.

The cars are very new, one I had a year ago, only had 500kms on the clock.
