Re-apply don't renew car insurance

Tip - I don't know whether this has been put up before.
It's re-applying for car insurance with the same company.
I got a car insurance renewal notice which was a huge increase over the previous year (as ever).
I apllied for a new policy on line for exactly the same car & cover with the same company, and got it cheaper than the previous year.
Once that was all in place, I had to ring up the same company to tell them I wouldn't be renewing last year's policy !!! Wierd.
Worth a try.

I guess you have not read ANY of the links above your post?
Some companies only allow that lower quote for new customers and your already a customer so it may not apply.
Most will though. But worth checking.
Gets expensive if you have to cance then take out another policy.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I kind of asked this in another thread, but nobody came up with a definitive answer, (my long rambling post probably put people off!), but i wonder how thie situation described above would work with two companies within the same group?
If i tell Admiral i am not renewing, but then go sign up online with Elephant (and get myself some cashback), do they have any right to cancel my policy at a later date?
As far as i am concerened, I will be a new Elephant customer and entitled to the new customer price. But is there any chance they will say different? I personally think if they are giving out quotes under different brands they have to be prepared for this.
Has anyone got any experience of this?0 -
Do the terms say does not apply to existing customers?
Or does not apply to customers within the main brand?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

I understand this doesn't include cashback, but in the last three years I have been with Admiral/Elephant. I was with Elephant and then switched to Admiral for a cheaper premium, but the following year I was about to switch back again but instead I just rang Admiral to ask if they'd match the Elephant quote (saving me the hassle of moving to a 'new' provider). They pulled up the quote and did so instantly. The quote was a new customer quote.0 -

As far as I can see there is no real difference between the Admiral Group companies - Admiral/Diamond/Elephant/Bell. Same bunch of sales people on the end of the phone no matter which one you think you have called. Same T&Cs and policies pretty much.
A successful, profitable and aggressive business model. Doesn't stop them smelling though.Mr Straw described whiplash as "not so much an injury, more a profitable invention of the human imagination—undiagnosable except by third-rate doctors in the pay of the claims management companies or personal injury lawyers"0 -

It's just market segmentation. I don't think it's any different to Tesco & Sainsbury's and the like having a "value" and a "taste the difference" label. If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -
There is no material difference between the offerings as I see it, certainly not as wide as Tesco Value v. Tesco Finest
Why give the impression that you are dealing with different companies I think the illusion of choice is misleading.
Why not call them Admiral Cheapest, Admiral Mediocre and Admiral Ordinary if they really think there is a difference worth calling out?Mr Straw described whiplash as "not so much an injury, more a profitable invention of the human imagination—undiagnosable except by third-rate doctors in the pay of the claims management companies or personal injury lawyers"0 -
I got renewal letter from Tesco in Aug., for 3rd party theft and fire, plus written that my policy will not be automatically renewed, so I should call them.
Instead of renewing I decided to buy policy as a new business. Comprehensive for the same money! On the policy letter is written: new business.
Because I have not renewed they sent me proof of NC, then the dep for new customers wanted me to prove NC, I did just ring them and no problem so far.0
