how much space do you have in your front garden as any soakaway would need to be at least 5m away from buildings
you could still dig a trial hole as it will depend on the ground you may have clay but it depends on what kind of clay and if it changes
sharp sand is not used for permeable paving due to it the sand being washed away and the stones (sharp) left behind and pea shingle wont hold the pavers in place due to there being no block on block and also cant be compacted also dabs of mortar on corner of blocks if used for vehicles wont last the movement will just break the mortar up

That would be out on the pavement/road - our garden is only 3.5 metres deep - the clay is fairly glutenous and appears to be deep - the installers have already laid sand followed by a thick membrane and have put down hardcore on top of this - right up to the house wall - firmly tamped down - so I guess (hope) that they know what they are doing - just a lack of visible sumps and definitely no signs of any troughs/grids to take the rain water in the first place......

sand down first then the hardcore???
did they bring a hitching post for their horse too
  • yes agree with above i can't quite understand why sand then a waterproof barrier surely you want to at least let the water soak away if it can ? all they have done is build a pond under your drive.
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

The membrane is NOT waterproof - it acts as a weedproof barrier, but lets water through !!

the fabric needs to be a proper geotextile not a woven weed fabric
