Hi all,

This is my first post on the MSE website. I have an account with Natwest with an overdraft. My son has recently been looking into the account and has seen the following since 2008:

01/07/08 OVERDRAFT ARRANGEMENT FEE £150
02/07/08 OVERDRAFT ARRANGEMENT FEE £150
23/06/09 OVERDRAFT ARRANGEMENT FEE £150
07/10/09 OVERDRAFT ARRANGEMENT FEE £150
26/11/09 OVERDRAFT ARRANGEMENT FEE £150
31/12/09 PAID REFERRAL FEE £30
02/06/10 OVERDRAFT ARRANGEMENT FEE £300
30/11/10 PAID REFERRAL FEE £60
31/12/10 PAID REFERRAL FEE £30
28/02/11 PAID REFERRAL FEE £30
28/04/11 PAID REFERRAL FEE £30
30/06/11 PAID REFERRAL FEE £60
29/07/11 PAID REFERRAL FEE £30
30/12/11 PAID REFERRAL FEE £60
31/01/12 PAID REFERRAL FEE £60
31/01/12 UNPAID ITEM FEE £35
29/02/12 PAID REFERRAL FEE £30
29/02/12 UNPAID ITEM FEE £70
30/03/12 UNPAID ITEM FEE £35
24/07/12 OVERDRAFT RENEWAL FEE £150

Total Fees: £1820

I had my original overdraft and have never changed it since. Could anybody explain what is going on here and if you believe I would be eligible to claim back these expenses. I have spoken to Natwest however they are very unhelpful and simply say that it is the overdraft being reviewed. Surely it can't be legal for them to review an account without permission and not change a jot and charge this amount?

Many thanks

Shaz

Why did you allow the first charge back in 2008, let alone all the rest, to go unchallenged at the time if you didn't think such a charge was legal?

If you feel it can't be legal for them to review an account without permission and not change a jot and charge this amount, you really should discuss this with your bank for a better explanation.

If you remain dissatisfied with the explanation, raise a formal complaint using the bank's complaint procedure.

Do let us know how you get on :)
