Hello,
I would really like to start growing maybe just a small amount of veggies or salad. i dont have much room at all so ideally it would be in wooden boxes or crates...
what could i start growing at the moment (or in the next few weeks) that would do well in a small box. I get sunshine first thing in the morning until maybe 11am and then its shady for the rest of the day.
Also i have some herbs indoors on my window sill... but they keep dying... any tips?
Of course i would like to do this as cheaply as possible so all advice would be appreciated!
Thanks xx

Hi
I have just started growing seeds in pots too and they are doing well. All my vegetables are growing in pots too as its easier I think to avoid slugs!!
Most veg can be grown in pots, it depends what you like... radishes, peas, beans, garlic, etc.
I bought a load of seeds off ebay (20 different types for a fiver!) so it was quite cheap considering!! You just need lots of different size pots. I got all my pots off freecycle (https://www.freecycle.org) so saved money there too.
Also if you want to grow mini carrots and parsnips etc, there is a seller on ebay that sells seeds for the tiny ones (you get in posh packets from Tesco). I growing mini carrots, mini parsnips and mini sweetcorn!!!
I started my veg off in a propagator (like a fish tank) indoors then I will gradually move it into greenhouse when weather gets warmer.
As for your herbs, mine on window sill too, but only just started growing from seed.
Hope this helps, not too sure how much sunshine they would need as we got sun all day.
Maybe someone else could help? Our dream has come true...

There's quite a bit you can grow successfully in pots. All sorts of lettuce and salad leaves, purslane, tomatoes with lots of canes for support ... last year we even grew runner beans with a wigwam in the pot and sweetcorn! Also cabbages, the little carrots which grow into ball shapes rather than long. I'd think beetroot and peas would be fine too. Strawberries are very successful in pots.
Pots are brilliant for growing in and you can move them around to follow the sun if you want to aswell
Learning how to save money with 5 little ones ... help!!
