I've bought an item of furniture for £850 inc postage I used a paypal voucher and got 10% off + £33 quidco. It is 12-16 weeks delivery (which I knew about) but I've now realised that I only get 45 days paypal protection  so if they don't deliver it I'll be unprotected. They have offered to refund 80% but then I'll loose my £118 discount and quidco. What should I do?
Edit: they have been on ebay 12 years 98% feedback

Personally I'd go ahead with the order and [STRIKE]break their kneecaps [/STRIKE]sue them if they don't deliver.

  • Yes, you may lose your paypal protection but your consumer rights would still be intact.

You might, however, give paypal a call and ask them if there's any case to extend their 45 day terms for exceptional circumstances like this. Don't know if they will do it but if you don't ask and all that... :)

  • Thanks I'll try contacting paypal, my worry was if they went into liquidation I'd get nothing :( but I really want the furniture :o

This is actually potentially a problem. If seller does go into liquidation then there is no paypal protection and no legal route that will get your money back as you would merely join the list of creditors. Your only chance would be if you put the amount on a credit card *and* your card company agreed to do a chargeback (and some will not where paypal is used).

  • Quick update - Paypal will not extend the 45 days they said they never do and never will the 45 days is Fixed!

Yep, that is always the case.

I am a little concerned about the low feedback at 98%, especially as with these run in times it almost certainly means disatisfied buyers won't be leaving feedback as they would be out of time.

Same every time you order on the high street though. Unless it's a cash and carry.
