is it ok to give out my bank details?

Hi

I have sold something on ebay and the buyer can't use her paypal account, (something about it being stopped?) she has asked if I will give her my bank account number and sort code and she will do an online transfer.

should I give her them or not? what could someone do with those details?

It is perfectly OK and you are lucky to get a buyer that offers as it saves you paypal fees.

In the 'old' days when we used cheques we gave out our account number and sort code every time we used a cheque and never worried about it, but people seem to not quite trust themselves any more and there is a lot of panic and mis information about the dangers of giving out bank details.

I've done bank transfers before with no problems - as Soolin says, you only give out the same info you'd give out on a cheque - and you don't have to pay paypal fees!:) Just confirm the funds are in your account before you post (may be an idea to wait 24 hours, afaik it may be possible for the transfer to be reversed in this time).
  • no problem with doing that as previous 2 posts have mentioned :)
