Using Metro Bank debit to take out cash abroad?

Has anyone tried taking out cash using a FX-fee-free debit card abroad?

It sounds like the holy grail of holiday spending, especially in countries that don't take card or have a silly fee for card payments (UK being one of them).

I have a Metro Bank account (opening it was a breeze at Holborn, the staff are so nice and polite), so this could really change holidays forever

Just have to make sure that the ATM doesn't charge me — how does one know that if in a foreign country? Even if I select the ATM to be in English, it probably still won't tell me it's charging me extra?

When you put the card in the ATM it tells it that it's an English card. I believe it's in MasterCard's rules that ATM's must display the warning on the ATM in the cards language. I certainly didn't have any problems abroad with my Metro Bank card.

My Russian VTB24 card reads in Russian, and my Georgian TBC card reads in little boxes
