Hope someone can help with this (I can't get the search function to work).
We were going to have meat and potatoes again for tea today - but I fancy a change, and am thinking about the American style biscuits .
Does anyone have an easy receipe for this

Basic Biscuits
makes 18-20
bake at 220c/gas 7
Sift together in a bowl
2 cups plain flour (that's a generous half pound /9 oz)
1 tbsp baking powder
half tsp salt
rub in
2 oz butter/marge/veg shortening
Add
6 fl oz milk
Mix to a dough, knead on a floured surface lightly about 20 times.
Pat or roll dough to half an inch thick.
Cut into biscuits
Bake on an ungreased baking sheet for 10-12 mins.
I've just made a batch of traditional scones and apart from the use of self-raising flour and less baking powder the recipes are identical

We have just finished our dinner the biscuits turned out well - but they were a bit flat compared to memory of proper American biscuits - I think I rolled them a bit thin.
LO did say the dinner was nice - so that is good enough for me.

Has anyone got a recipe for the big chewy cookies like the Millies Cookies ones?
I must have tried hundreds of recipes in the past, but none have ever turned out anything like - they tasted good but not like the Millies.
At £5 for 13 I want to find a home made alternative...help please???0 -
you have to remember that millies cookies contain preservatives and flavour enhancers.

I always find sweet recipes harder than savoury when using american ingredients as they have lots of things we dont have here. Also they tend to use trade names too.
Ive got a great recipes for triple cloc cookies, I think they taste like they belong in millies cookies and certainly arent cakey like the british counterparts ive tried. I cant remember the quantities as im at work but the ingredients are cocoa, flour, butter, white, milk and dark choc chips, soft brown sugar, eggs. I think thats it but ill post it on here later.
They went down a treat when I made 24 giant ones for a football match a few weeks back, the kids were inhaling them;)0 -
If you have an american recipe and you'd like to know what something is, ask on here and I can tell you.
Crisco = lard/butter/marg for ex.
a lot of recipes on the net are published by the food manufacterers who want you to use that group of products. Ie: toll house cookies = choc chips, crisco = lard, Kraft products etc.
You'l be able to find quite a few recipes on that site that are generic and dont' have brand name/ mixes in them.0 -
There was a thread with recipe on here last year. You basically made up a big batch of a brownie mix but could also make cookies with it. I added choc chips and vanilla essence and have to say the result were pretty much as good as Millies (as without the additives).
Will have a hunt round for link - if not will copy from my recipe folder.0
