56 addresses on credit file - is this ok?!

This afternoon I applied for a Halifax Clarity credit card but was rejected. I was quite surprised by this as I bank with Halifax already and have their "normal" credit card at the moment which I tend to spend between £50 & £500 a month and pay off in full every month.

Anyway I thought I'd check my credit reports to see if there's anything that I don't know about on there. Everything looked fine on Experian, everything up to date, never missed a payment, never paid late. The same was showing on Credit Expert except the bit about linked addresses has 56 different linked addresses - all variations in spellings and wordings of my last 3 addresses (approx 2 years at current property, 6 years at previous and 3 years before that)

Would all these incorrect worded addresses have any baring on what various financial institutions think of my account?

I guess I'm just a bit worried that they might think I've moved 56 times or something?!

Sorry if this is a dumb question!

many thanks

  • Shouldn't worry about it. I have over 100 addresses listed on experian (all variations of 4 or 5 previous addresses) and I've recently been accepted for what are considered harder to get lines of credit (First Direct and Amex).
  • You could always ask the CRAs to merge the addresses as notice of corrections

Lenders only see the same formatted address once anyway so it won't make any difference.

  • did you apply online for the card? I know it is halifax policy over the phone and in branch that you can't have a halifax clarity unless the other account is closed 30 days first however in some cases they may upgrade the existing to the clarity. :)
