No cat can dig those holes, there's also fox poo. (my neighbour saw it and said it was easy to distinguish).

I think it comes in the middle of the night, so I can't be awake and waiting for it..

The reason i asked if you were sure is that it sounds a bit odd for a fox to be coming into your garden to dig holes as opposed scavenge for food in bins or laying around the garden.

Are they digging in flower beds (do you use bone meal, or the like, plant food by chance?) or is it the lawn?

I would have suspected Badgers to dig holes but not so much foxes
  • Foxes would normally stay well clear of cats, as they're usually more scared themselves! Doesn't sound like normal fox behaviour. I'd recommend keeping your cats in at night anyway, irrelevant of the fox, it's usually the time they get into trouble...

as someone said, pee usually keeps them away. So as disgusting as it may be, get a male to pee in the garden.... unless you fancy it yourself lol !!

Foxes have been known to attack cats too, i lost one of my cats to a fox :(
There's this place in me where your fingerprints still rest, your kisses still linger, and your whispers softly echo. It's the place where a part of you will forever be a part of me.

I don't think that's a problem, obviously my two cats don't leave the house when the fox is outside!!

They are 13 years old and never had a problem or fight with other cats, there are several in the neighbourhood but they all get along (more or less, they are cats after all...).

I'm planning to leave the litter inside for a while, see what happens, it's difficult to tell if the fox is still coming as the garden is a mess now..

It's very rare for a fox to attack a cat.

Are the holes in the grass or in the soil? If the soil you might try mulching with a thick layer of cocoa shells. When they get wet they glue together to make a mat which dogs and cats are not supposed to like and keeps weeds down.
