Cruise - how to pay onboard

About to go on a Cruise and am worried about how I will pay when on board. I do not have a credit card and do not want to get one being 70 years old and managed without one so far. Do they accept debit cards and if not what happens if I open a cash account? (In simple terms please!)

They will give you a credit account on-board with a plastic card to do all your spending........but you will need to leave your teeth with the captain as deposit.Political?....I dont do Political....well,not much!0

At embarkation you will be issued with a plastic card, this is your door key to your cabin and is also used for all your purchases aboard. All cruises are cashless for your and their security.
When you sign-in you will be asked how you intend to pay your onboard expenses. They prefer a credit card, but you can pay with cash upfront, so you will have no problem.0 -
Debit card is fine for some ships but not all.
SOme put a hold on funds so you need to make sure the account has enough money for the final bill and fro the other things that will be taken while away
You can still pay with cash even if you register a card.
cash will need a deposit, check with the cruise line how big that needs to be.
depending on the line you may be better taking the curency the cruise line uses.
which cruise.
If traveling with someone with a CC you could see if you can use theirs to register and then pay cash or use the debit card to pay of the bill(you can do this during the cruise if you want)0 -

Something is mentioned about a deposit if paying cash - I will have to look into how much is expected. Thank you0 -

We did a Royal Caribbean Cruise last year and paid with a debit card. They load your cruise card with whatever you request and it is taken off your debit card. If it runs out they will let you know and ask for more funds!!0
