Sorry, Im not sure where to put this. Please move if needed.
I have got a basic bank account, but need to apply for something via post and therefore I am requested to send a cheque. I have not got a cheque book so is a postal order the same thing? I think it is, but just want to make sure. The form doesn't say anything about postal orders, just who the cheque needs to be paid to.
Thanks

It should be OK - these days a postal order has all the attributes of a cheque - sort code, account number, etc, and can go through the clearing system.
You can get the name of the payee typed on it at issue.0 -
can a family member do one, if you gave then cash? po fees can be dear!Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..

Do you not have a savings account that you could draw a cheque from? (Depending on the sum and institution involved this may or may not be cheaper than getting a PO.)0

I've used a PO before for something else so am aware there are charges ( not really surprising) I'm happy to pay a small charge and I'd rather do that than ask someone to write a cheque, just want to know it will be fine. I do have a savings account but no cheque book for that either. Wasn't aware you could get cheques with a savings account TBH.
Thanks for your help I will get a PO then if it will be accepted. I was just worried that it would come back to me as the form does not mention PO'sCurrent Aims: Laptop/PC, decent money, holiday

Why not check with the recipient before sending them the PO?0
