No hot water!

Hi

I have an ideal gas boiler. For the past couple of months we have been heating the hot water via the immersion heater switch as the gas part doesnt seem to work. The boiler is set to max and i've tried changing the programming etc. to no avail. I always used to know it worked as the tank is by our bedroom and would make a lot of noise when came on in the mornings but it doesnt do this any more.

The central heating part of the system works fine. I have someone coming out to service the boiler a week on friday but i dont want to get ripped off when i ask him about the hot water issues. I'd like to have some background knowledge first.

I dont want to continue having to use the immersion heater for obvious expensive reasons lol (i am dreading the next bill after i accidently left it on for a week when away eek!)

Any help much appreciated!

p.s. our house is 6 years old for info!

thanks
