Bank Of Scotland wanting proof of id and address with returned application

Well my partner has been approved for a credit card with Bank Of Scotland (shifting the debt from an old card to a interest free card for 18 months) and she got the acceptence paperwork back last week. Been unable to sent it back yet as we have had to deal with a family funeral in the last week.

Anyway, they are asking for a form of id and proof of address to be sent with the application or copies of signed by either a solicitor or bank official to be sent back with the application. We dont want to go down the copies route as there is almost certainly a cost involved and my partner is to busy to visit either options for a verification signature in the next week so it would have to be original documents as it needs to get sent back before time runs out from the date of the original application.

Is this normal to be asked for this with the form to be sent back?. We dont mind if it is but it does seem a little strange as we have never been asked to send original id ducuments in the post before for any credit application?. And assumingly these would get sent back reguardless of final decision pending acceptable documents sent?.

Anyways the first is stated as a government issued document such as a passport or driving licence. My partner has neither of these so would her berth certificate be just as acceptable?.

I don't know, BoS would though and I suggest asking them.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

Could you take the documents in to a branch?
  • There's no cost involved with copies as you simply go in branch to a BoS (or presumably one of their other brands) and they will do the copies for you and send it off in their internal mail.

The below is for RBS rather than BoS but banks have very similar Know Your Customer checks as they all come from anti money laundering legislations. Generally a birth certificate is only acceptable for kids and not adults but you can always check - generally they want the personal ID to be photographic

  • BOS don't accept birth certs I'm afraid, only photo id or counterpart driving licence :) x
