Free 1 year claims bonus - can I keep it

When I first started car insurance I was given a free 1 years free no claims bonus.

If I want to move to another car insurance, can I include that extra free no claims or is it only for that specific car insurance?

Whatever it says on the renewal, as that's the proof you'll have to show to a new insurer.

Presumably you are talking about at renewal? Your renewal documents will show what NCD you have to taking elsewhere

Many insurers give an introductory discount but this is worth a little less than 1 years NCD and when you renew you simply get 1 years NCD (which is slightly more than the introductory discount)

If you only actually earned 1 years then thats all you can declare. Bonus years of NCD locks you into that insurer for a couple of years so worth it to them usually.

After a few of years of no claims it will usually appear as normal no claims on the renewal. Then you can take it elsewhere.

Sometimes you get the issue of you have only been insured for 2 years so how can you have 3 years no claims. You need to avoid those companies.

Unless its a cheaper quote with the lower limit declared of course.
