Question re: credit checking

Hello all, recent member of the MSE community here. Already learned a great deal from trawling the articles and forum as a non-member. I have a quick question re: credit checks. I'm currently in the midst of a personal finance epiphany, and trying to get my affairs in order before buying a first home with my wife. I recently applied for and got a 0% credit card. I'm now looking at my current account with RBS and feel that the First Direct account would be a better fit, given their customer service record, their £100 joining "prize" and my dissatisfaction with RBS over a number of issues. Given that I've just completed a successful credit card application, and plan to apply for a mortgage in the next 2-6 months would it be advisable to hold back on the current account application to reduce the number of credit checks on my credit report? The recent CC is the only credit check currently on my report. I greatly appreciate any advice that you can offer.

I'm not 100% confident on this and hopefully someone with more knowledge will be along to correct me :) but I'm nearly sure that First Direct do a credit check for that account. I was thinking of joining recently as I was moving from Ulster Bank but in the end plumped for Nationwide.

Anyway...bank on topic! The check for that and a credit card may be too much on your account if you're looking for a mortgage in a few months but it may depend on the lender and how many other checks you might have for cards or loads etc.
