Student finance not arrived

Help!!

It's been 4 days and I still haven't seen my first installment of my grant and loan appear in my bank account. I started uni on Monday and went to all the classes and signed all the necessary paper registers to show that I am present at the uni.

Any ideas what could be taking them soooo long to give me the money?

Just that I have a nervous aunty here in Manchester whilst I live in student accommodation (which btw is a really nice place) and I've told her it should be in my Thursday which obviously it hasn't. I've got enough money to last me 3 weeks or so as I'm not the going out type nor do I waste money on unnecessary things.

Did you take your student loan letter when you registered? Was this scanned?

Your university has to confirm your registration before the first payment is made via BACS. I would give SLC a call and see if they can confirm your attendance along with a date for your first payment.

Actually that's a good idea taking in my student finance papers to confirm my attendance in person because on Monday they all made up sign the register which I was assuming would be the proof that I had attended as we had to put down my ID card number next to our name to show we attend the university but just in case today will take in my student finance letter before I go and somehow sort it out.

There is usually a barcode on the top of the letter which the university has to scan. This is used to confirm your attendance at the university to student loans who will then start the process of releasing your loan. It used to take 3 working days for the funds to be released once the confirmation had been received as it used BACS.

Not all universitys use the letter and barcode so don't panic if they haven't asked for it. If you sign into your finance account you'll be able to see the status of the payment. Worth doing that before waiting in a mega queue at the university.

  • I'm a Student Finance Advisor at a University and am aware of a few reasons why students might not get their loans on time:

    1) They haven't returned their Student Declaration. The University can't confirm your attendance to Student Finance England until this is returned. You can check whether you have returned this by looking on your online account in View Correspondence. If they haven't received it, they will have sent you a letter requesting it. You can print it from the online account if you need to.

    2) You haven't enrolled. This is easily sorted! When you enrol, the University will either scan your letter, or will confirm your attendance online to SFE. Unis do this in different ways.

    3) You've had a recent name change or you have a sibling/twin at the same Uni. This can confuse the system that some Unis use to confirm the attendance for students. If this is the case, check with the Student Finance Team at your University

    4) Delays in Student Finance England processing attendance confirmations. This is happening to some students at a lot of Universities this year. The University has confirmed attendance, but Student FInance England haven't yet processed it. They are working on this backlog but it can lead to finance being delayed for a few days. You can check if this is the problem by speaking to the Student Finance Team at your uni.

    5) You transferred unis at the last minute or got your place through clearing. For some students who have updated their course online, the transfer hasn't gone through. The Student Finance Team at your uni can check this by calling the HEI Helpline at Student Finance England.

Basically, ignore all the above and go to see your Student Finance Team at your University. They are there to help and will be able to find out what the problem is. If you don't know where they are, ask at Student Services :)

Hope you find out what's happening and get it sorted soon!

Yeah I actually contacted the student information point via email and they got back to me saying that on the 18th Sept my name was put forward on the attending list to SLC so now it makes sense that on Monday I'll be getting paid. Happy days.

My guess is I'm getting paid on the Monday!! Happy days! I'm currently at MMU (Manchester Metropolitan)
