Warranty problem

Options
Hello can anyone advise.

First the story.

Bought a car that had alloys changed under warranty and noticed they were corroding so contacted manafacturer (Chrysler) and the alloys were changed as Chrysler warranty is two years on replacement parts.

The new alloys corroded after 18 months, contacted Chrysler who have told me the policy has changed and parts changed are now covered for the remainder of the original warranty. (policy changed when fiat took over).

So I challenged them under the sale of goods act 1979 as the goods supplied are not of a quality expected.

They say it makes no difference as they did not sell me anything and changed the alloys under warranty. Also the policy change they are allowed to do.

Anyone know where I stand on this?

When my alloys were changed under the warranty, I was told the new alloys had two year warranty, but I had nothing in writing. Fiat took over Chrysler about six months later and policy changed.

Contact Citizens advice and see what they say, but you could be in for a long struggle ahead, and its hardly worth taking them to court over, given the cost, hassle, stress involved - Alloys can be refurbished now from about £50 per wheel, which should then last a lot longer that 18 months.

I guess if you're not happy with the service you've got from Chrysler, vote with your feet come trade in time. ;)
  • My ex had four sets of alloys over two years on her Suzuki Vitara, due to corrosion. They were all replaced under warranty.
