BMW Car Servicing

Options
Dear all

I'm looking for some advice on BMW Car servicing. To cut a long story short my dad's car has been in a BMW main dealer for 8 Weeks and it still not fit for the road. During this period he was given a courtesy car for the first couple of weeks but mistakenly put petrol in fuel tank instead of diesel and the courtsey car broke down. The courtsey car was taken back to BMW garage and needed some repair. Fair enough this was an honest mistake but BMW have hit him with a huge bill for this - some of what has been detailed in this bill appears execessive for the repair, however the garage has stated they will not repair or release his own car until the bill for the courtsey car has been paid and even threatened to sell ny dad's car to cover the costs and garage did not issue another courtsey car even although this is detailed in the warranty whilst his own is still awaiting repair - which they claim they are awaiting parts for.

To me these are two seperate issues what I want to know is the BMW Garage entitled to do this?

Seems fairly straightforward. Your Dad broke the courtesy car, he should pay for it.

I can understand BMW not giving him another until he has paid to fix the previous one. I can also understand them not releasing his car until the work has been paid for. It is standard for a garage to hold onto a car until work has been paid for.

If the charges are incorrect that would be worth raising. However if you just thing they are excessive, I presume that you are taking into account BMW's exhorbitant hourly rates.

I'm looking at the courtesy car issue from an insurance standpoint. If the agreement covering the courtesy car said that the BMW garage arranged the insurance then query why this would not cover the engine damage caused because a normal comprehensive policy would include this type of claim. If your father arranged for his own insurance to cover the courtesy car then put this point to his own insurance company.

    Best of luck

    - the courtsey car was taken out on my dads insurance who are looking into for him, he doesn't object to paying for the damage its more the fact his own car has been off the road for almost 9 weeks and they won't complete the repair until he has settled the bill for the courtsey car and the fact the service department kept fobbing him off as to when his own car would be repaired before the incident with the courtsey car.
