Hi
For the following items I have had the following quotes from 4 different local independent companies, would be grateful for any advice please
All of which cover
6 PIR's one of which pet friendly for garage
(others for kitchen, dining room, hall, lounge, landing)
1 door contact for front door
1 Bell Box
Control panel with dialler
2 keyfobs
What one company told me is that the bell box should be wired in and not wireless so it complies with NSI Gold regulations?
Company 1 - NSI Silver
For the Pyronix Enforcer it was £590+ VAT and £90+VAT per year maintenance
Company 2 - NSI Gold
Visonic Powermax Complete
£490 + VAT and £70 annual maintenance
Company 3 - NSI Gold
Honeywell wireless system
£1800+ VAT and £120+VAT per annum
Company 4
Scantronic ION 16 system
£ 1200 + vat with service contract £140 per year
There is a huge variation in price and all use different products and all tell conflicting information so its difficult to choose one and a system

It's not difficult to fit a wireless system yourself, it only needs a little Diy knowledge.

Anybody got any thoughts on those quotes?
I know you can get DIY systems Yale ,friedland etc but I have been told they are not the same quality as the likes of texecom, pyronix, visonic etc0 -
Are you able do the work yourself? What exactly does the 'yearly fee' entail? them just changing some batteries?
I personally would go Honeywell (I have a Honeywell alarm and, well, it just works and has never had anything go 'wrong') but buy and fit it all myself and maintain it myself.
Only looked very quickly but buy this http://www.e-fireandsecurity.co.uk/ade-honeywell-galaxy-g2k3wl-01-c-wireless-intruder-alarm-kit-with-pstn-pirs-and-keyprox/p4300
with an extra three of these http://www.e-fireandsecurity.co.uk/ade-honeywell-galaxy-ir800m-2-way-pir-motion-detector/p4302
and this http://www.e-fireandsecurity.co.uk/ade-honeywell-galaxy-sef8m-wireless-external-siren-orange-lens/p6361
That covers all you want and comes to £540 (incl. VAT) fitting yourself is free (wireless is super easy to fit) and you've saved yourself £1620 over their Honeywell quote, hey even if you can't fit it yourself I'll come to your house personally and fit it for a grand which will still save you £620 on their quote
A wired outside bell box would mean you don't have to go up and change the batteries which is a plus (and partly the reason why I got rid of my wireless alarm and replaced it with a wired system)
No brainier which I would go for, you say a DIY alarm may be a lesser quality but what do you really what from an alarm? I want it to go off if someone breaks in while it's set and truth is they all do that.
I would choose a reliable brand first (Honeywell is) and not really bother on certifications and such, with the vast majority of people ignoring a sounding house alarm your only really paying for a placebo effect anyway.0 -
Thanks
So basically just buy a good quality wireless alarm online and fit it yourself and save a fortune on a pro install
Is it really that easy to set up the likes of Honeywell, pyronix, visonic wireless alarms? If that's the case why do people pay installers? Is it for the hard wired power supply?
The alternative is just get a dummy siren and save the cash!!0 -
Well as I said I bought and fitted a fully wired Honeywell alarm myself and the hardest part was putting the wires through the wall, with a wireless system you don't have to do that.
To fit a wireless alarm only requires very basic DIY skills, you basically just follow the instructions provided attaching the various parts to the walls and wirelessly connecting them together, set up is straightforward.
The hardest part is fitting the outside bell box as you have to go up a ladder, and connecting the bell box and control panel to the mains if you don't want to connect it to the mains yourself then don't, you can get someone qualified just to do that part for you.
I can't really comment why people pay the prices I'm sure you could even buy the components yourself and get someone in to fit and connect the parts for you, people pay hundreds of pounds to have antivirus installed on their computer and that's much much easier than fitting an alarm.
It all depends with what your happy with and whether doing it yourself is even an option.0
