which wall to feature, if at all?

Wanting to paint a bedroom-cream and possibly chocolate feature wall. I have the paint, so would like to use it if possible.
The question is which wall should I feature?
It is a bit of an awkward layout. There is a wall with a chimney breast, with uneven alcoves either side-one side has a wardrobe, and the other a low chest, but will hopefully end up with shelving in it, although it is an awkward size so I cannot get a bookcase to fit it in it.
next wall has bed, 2 bedside tables and the door opening into the room (I KNOW-bad feng shui :o)
Next wall has chest of drawers, bookcase, and a door into cupboard (full size, cupboard holds tumble dryer and sheets and towels, a sort of hotpress for a house with a combi:D)
Next wall has a large window-one of those big rectangular ones with a large expanse of glass, and the radiator beneath it

SO-would you feature any? Or just paint them all cream? I just don't want to waste the brown paint (it is a brand new tin, I bought for another room, then lost receipt when didn't need it and b&q wouldn't exchange.....)

Thanks :D

Perhaps the chimney breast wall? I had that as a feature wall in my old flat and it looked v. good.

Generally the wall behind the bed is the feature wall.May bit look right with a door on it though!

The alcoved wall with chimney breast sounds like a feature wall (well,if it had built in shelves it would) but it would be better if it was opposite your bed.Maybe you could paint just the breast or alcoves?

Either way I can't picture it having the effect it should have with the layout of your room but you can do what you can with it.Either paint behind the bed and ignore the door,or paint the breast or alcoves I guess.

Or you could paint some feature 'panels' on a wall?

Btw do you really have a cupboard with tumble drier in it in your bedroom?!!!!

  • Well, thats the one we have featured downstairs, but I was worried as it has the wardrobe in it that it wouldn't be noticed iykwim?

It wouldn't be a case of not noticed, possibly just looking 'wrong'.

What about just the breast itself?would be better but in all honesty I wouldn't bother

Yep, we do :D:p To be fair-it is the spare room! And we rarely have guests :)

I am not sure if we will ever put the shelving up, as we have procrastinated for YEARS about it. Unless anyone can find me a bookcase that is 67cm wide? :D

Yeah, that is the way I am leaning.

Or-the curtains are cream, should I paint the window wall brown to contrast? Otherwise it will be all cream with a browny carpet:o

It may look a little odd?I'm not sure, will try to imagine it.Main thing to ask yourself is if you'll be happy staring at it from bed?

  • Ah, but I won't be staring at it from bed-it is the spare room.... I use it to hang out washing in winter...
People stay in it for 1-2 nights max.
So it is-what looks OK for a short time....
(oh and all the storage holds me & OH clothes :o)

In that case go and paint the breast!
