wrong standing charge+tarrif

hello i do not use much electricity. i didnt actually know i had a standing charge i wasnt told bout it. anyway, it is wrong.

british gas say on the website

clear and simple pay as you go.

12.470p tarrif

18.69p standing charge.

but my meter says 1.84 charge week

divide that by 7days = 26.2p, per day standing charge

( a difference of 7.51p a day times that by a year approx = £27 )

I do not know how many years it has been this way. how would I ever know?

is there a history chart of British gas tarrifs prices and standing charges? if i ring up they may just refund a month? or a year? or give me a 5 gift top up voucher .

The tariff is lower however @ 11.64 p so they may say that i should be grateful. even though I do not use that many KWhs

its pretty obvious why they do this to low energy users. How many others in my neighbourhood are being ripped off?

thanks for reading.

i am planning to move to ebico.

Clear and simple is BG's new Standard Tariff for new customers. As fas as I'm aware you actively had to opt in to it if you were a customer already. It sounds like you have not opted in it so I think you are looking at the wrong tariff and will be on Standard Pay As You Go.

Why don't you ring them up and ask?

As I understand it British Gas did not charge a daily standing charge to their electricity customers supplied via a PPM.

This has recently changed for new customers (or those transferring to the new tariff)

I too suggest you contact the supplier if you have queries regarding the way you are being charged by them.
