If it was through msconfig, there is usually a box to check, Do not show this warning again
Is the box a balloon tip (by the clock) or a box in the centre of the screen?0 -
not sure what a ballon tip is?
its a small box at the bottom...and it kinda fades away unless you move the mouse on it0 -
balloon tips come up like a comic book speech bubble at the bottom right of your screen near the clock.
This sounds like the message you mean.
I am on Vista Ultimate so I can disable balloon tips quite easily, I assume you are on Vista Home Premium. If so, it can be a little tricky.
There are far more differences between Vista versions than they let on.
I binned my Vista Home Premium for this reason, I felt too locked out of it.
If it is Vista Ultimate:Press Windows+R, enter gpedit.msc and hit enter.
This opens the Group Policy Editor.
Go to User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Start Menu and Taskbar.
Select Remove Balloon Tips, right-click it and choose properties from the context menu
Select Enable from the options and click ok
Close the Group Policy Editor
Reboot Windows Vista
If it is one of the poorer relations to Ultimate (not tested this)Press Windows+R, type regedit and hit enter. This starts the registry editor
Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER / SOFTWARE / Microsoft / Windows / CurrentVersion / Explorer / Advanced
Create a new Dword and name it EnableBalloonTips
The value should be automatically set to 0, if it is not change it to 0

tried that and it hasnt worked?? any ideas , might be a error on my part???0 -
see post 2.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
-
can someone talk me through how to find the ticked box?
windows vista premium0 -
Because it fades away afte a while, I am sure it is a balloon tip,
I had issues with this and many other features in Vista Premium which is why I removed it. Hated it after a short while of not being allowed to make my own changes.
We may need someone with Vista premium to check this out, it is claimed to work (and has worked on previous Windows versions) but I do not have Premium to test it out on.
During the Regedit, did you end up with a screen similar to this one?
I am on Vista Ultimate so there may be differences.

there was no apply or anything after i made it??0 -
That sounds right, you must reboot afterwards though.
Did I mention I hated Vista Premium??
I will have a search about when I get a chance.0 -
yeah restarted it and all that......its not a big problem but id sooner make it stop0
