Virgin v Privilege

Hi guys,

I have been searching around for car insurance after Virgin sent me my renewal quote. Now the quote is about £580, but when i type in my details on get a new quote for Virgin it gives me a price of £475! the other cheapest provider is Privilege, its actually cheaper but i need to pay monthly so would be £480.

Virgin have been fine over the past year but ive never needed to call them with any problems, has anyone got any experience with privilege? im not sure whether to cancel my virgin and then proceed with the online quote (possibilty that somehting might go wrong as you know how bad admin these places can be) or got with priv.

any thoughts?

thanks

Have you tried phoning Virgin and telling them you have a better quote from Privilege and from their online system? They may well just match it and save you the hassle of swapping insurers.

I phoned Virgin and they can't match it, he told me to cancel my insurance with them and go online and get a new policy from their own website. What sillyness!

That is always they way with insurance companies they depend on inertia with old customers and give a discount for new customers. I'm surprised those two are the cheapest but if you have checked and found them to be so I would cancel the Virgin on and go through Quidco to get the Privilege one as you also get £70 cash back

    Thanks for this!

I cancelled Virgin, found a cheaper quote with Pru (£415), went through quidco and got £100 cashback.

This is the first time ive used quidco so hopefully it works!

Just check in a couple of days to make sure it has tracked, My OH got hers through Pru and it didn't track and she had to raise a query with Quidco giving all the details it has now been accepted and she is waiting for the money to come through. I have never had any problems in fact my money back for the house insurance came through into my account this morning.

Just checked and it has been tracked.
It states on the homepage that all comp insurance have a courtesy car but when i bought mine it said 'Hire Car - No'. Did your OH find this?

It doesnt matter too much, i will wait till my documents come in the post. Just one thing, if i have to phone up and change anything on the policy will it still track and pay ok? i know that on the quidco page it says it must be done fully online. Thanks in advance, im new to this quidco stuff :)

Afraid I have no idea about the hire car. She was surprised to find that they did a free breakdown cover not sure if that was a special offer at the time though. As she is already covered on my Auto Aid one so it wasn't really needed.
Not sure about your question re phoning them up to change anything I would presume that unless your cancelling it then it would be ok

I went through Greasy Palm and bought my insurance through Prudential as I had heard that people were having problems with Quidco tracking. When you reach the end of the Prudential quote system it says coutesy car not covered but I am pretty sure that when I received my documents it says courtesey car included? The breakdown cover wasn't originally included in the paperwork from Prudential (although it was shown on the Greasy Palm advert) but when I rang Prudential concerning my proof of no claims the very nice lady that I spoke to said she would get it added. Incidentally my Greasy Palm transaction tracked within a couple of hours and will be paid in first week of May so all in all a good result.
