Number plate dealers - seller feedback?

Options
I'm struggling to find reviews or feedback on the companies out there selling number plates. I have a cherised / personal plate worth a considerable amount which I'd like to sell. After looking up a few of the big name companies, I am not filled with confidence as commission/fees seem to be vague, pricing inflated and some have premium rate contact numbers at nearly £1 an hour, which I don't much like.

The review sites seem to carry lots of reviews from purchasers, but can anyone point me in the direction of any seller feedback?

I am a little reluctant to sell something of such high value on Ebay (but maybe I should reconsider...).

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Sunday newspapers motoring sections. But who says it is valuable? I would have thought prices will be significantly lower than they were 5 years ago.
  • I agree. I'm no expert but would also expect values to have fallen in that time.

The number in question has two numbers (both the same) and two letters (which are quite popular initials). A similar one sold in a recent DVLA auction for £7600 with the same two letters and a lower value number. I'm not expecting anywhere near that amount, but it's too valuable to give away if that's what you're thinking...

I'll look into the Sunday papers, thanks for the tip.

I'm still interested in reviews of the dealers if anyone can help?

Don't DVLA take them back, or perhaps they could advise you more? Just a thought!
Thanks to all the competition posters.
  • Thanks smitchy73, but all the DVLA says is -

"If you want to sell your registration we suggest you approach a private dealer or advertise the registration for sale yourself. DVLA's sales scheme is confined to selling it's own previously unissued registrations. We do not endorse or recommend any particular individual or company."

Please - is there anybody out there who has had experience of selling through a dealer???
  • From what I remember from when I was only trying to find out what my Reg Number was worth a few years ago, none of the dealers approached offered to buy the number. They only offered to sell it on my behalf.

To be honest, I didn't feel comfortable with any of them.
