Cavity Wall Insulation for LESS than 66% of House

Hi all,

We live in the coldest house in the Uk.. well, almost! It's a Grade 2 listed, half timbered and stone house with parts dating back to the 12th century and it's been extended throughout the generations. It has metal casement windows which are single glazed and the glass is largely held together with sellotape (yes..really!) Unfortunately, our Listed Buildings Officer doesn't like secondary glazing, so we have heavy curtains/blinds. We mainly "live" in the extended part of the house which comprises kitchen and upstairs bedroom. We have been told that this extension (constructed in 1980's) is cavity wall but uninsulated. We have rung up numerous providers of "free insulation" (Tesco, EDF, British Gas, Scottish Power etc etc) but they insist that they can only do it if you have at least 66% of your entire property being cavity wall.

Does anyone know if anybody offers to do free cavity wall insulation for LESS than this percentage? Our extension is about 25% of the entire house.

We are in receipt of low income working tax credits and council tax benefit. Also, does anybody offer free draughtproofing? We are based in Wales and qualified for the NEST scheme, but although they very kindly installed us a new oil boiler, it's pointless having the central heating on with all the draughts!

Any help much appreciated!

Don't know if this will help but..............Recently had my house surveyed for free cavity wall insulation. It was suitable, but access to all the walls was an issue.
I estimated that it would cost me £300+ to free access to the one major gable end wall, due to dense bushes between the wall and the property fence so I asked the surveyor whether they would insulate the rest of the house anyway, as I couldn't see a sensible pay back for doing the work required.
He said no ,because,if we did insulate the rest of the property, it would lead to the one uninsulated wall being much colder than the rest of the house, causing excessive condensation on the wall with consequent mould growth on internal wall surfaces.
Still debating whether to clear the vegetation at my expense to get the cavity walls filled!!
