I've often found that placing an advert in the car itself with some brief details of service history, MOT, contact telephone number etc can result in a sale. Park it up on a large retail park for the day. A good tip I got from living in Germany is to place little strips of paper with your telephone number on under the wiper blades for people who are interested (and dont have a pen on them).
I have also had genuine responses from ads placed in local stores.
If it is becoming desperate then have a look at putting it in at auction.

    Good luck.

Renault Clio, probably says it all, after all the bad publicity Renault and the Clio model has had on Watchdog this last few weeks I would think even dealers will have a job to move them at the moment. :rolleyes2

Advertised a 10 year old Ford Fiesta on eBay last week (as a classified ad not an auction). Cost about £13 I think, for that you can write your own advert with as much detail and photos etc as you want, just as for any eBay auction.

Between phone calls and email through eBay I got about 8 or so interested people within a few days. In fact the ad went up at about 1pm last Monday, by 6pm I had a phone call from someone who came round to see the car that evening, and emailed to make an offer when he got home, about 9pm.

I also was expecting the car to be worth about £350-400 (good condition but only 3 months MOT), my mum persuaded me to ask for more so there was more room if people wanted to negotiate the price down. In the end sold it for £470 (someone offered the asking price of £490 but by that time I'd already agreed to sell to someone & was more interested in a quick & easy sale than the extra £20).

If you're interested, this is my advert that sold the car.

Luckily mine aint the Mark II!!!

i put it on ebay as it was free at the time.. put it up at a buy it now! got alot of people watching.. no bidders or contacts.

think i might be best putting it up low and then having a reserve on it!?

Tell us the age / model / mileage.

I am sorry to say some people have unrealistic expectations of what their car is worth, and the fact that you have had no calls may imply that price is putting people off.

Problem is, it's a buyers' market. I've struggled to sell used cars privately for about 18 months now.

Stick it on the 'bay, definitely - it gives you a bigger audience. I put my last car on Ebay and although it didn't reach the reserve I ended up agreeing a deal with the highest bidder privately after the auction had ended

    Thanks.

Think i will do that! the book is out today at the new reduced price.. see what happens. other than that iv contacted a few places that will offer money for my car but they for obvious reasons don't offer as much!

With eBay, try the classified ad option rather than the auction. For a start the eBay fees are much less, also gives you more flexibility, since you don't have to go with the highest bidder, don't have to wait till the auction ends, can negotiate prices and payment methods etc between you and the buyer.

Just checked with glasses and this is what they say:-

    Renault Clio RXE
    1.6 Petrol 3-door Hatchback
5 Speed Manual Front Wheel Drive
    Year: 1999 S
    Mileage: 63,000

    Part-exchange Price:
    Excellent condition:
    £1280

    Average condition:
    £1120

    Below average condition:
    £950

Just also looked through autotrader - there is one with 36,000 serviced in Feb this year up at 1695.

Lots at dealers up at 1995 ish who will all knock a couple hundred off if pushed, so I think that your price looks to high. I would give it a week at 1995, but given that the trade price is 1280 in good condition then be prepared to drop down to 1500 ish for a private sale.
