If they were your Gran's horses why would you mention them on the SOA form?

You must be fully open and honest with the OR (it is the only way to move forward) if the horses are yours you should at least discuss with them, I had to to allow an increase in my "pets" allowance on SOA for more than one dog, but if they are your Grans of course you do not need to mention them would you?
My dogs are pets are were not mentioned on my SOA, guess that is the distinction or discussion on what is a pet and what is livestock, "livestock" is defined in the dictionary as "Domestic animals, such as cattle or horses, raised for home use or for profit, not as pets, especially on a farm" where as a Pet is"A domestic or tamed animal or bird kept for companionship or pleasure and treated with care and affection"
Considering what you say they are "worth" in monetary terms, the OR might just get a bit questioning about any costs associated with them, but your Gran covers these, remember the OR is doing a job they want to enjoy stress free like the restof us, why would he/she want to open a whole can of worms for at best after costs £300?every time I manage to get one more breath into this body, I will sing a song of thanks to you my brothers, my sisters, my friends, may your sleep be peaceful, and angels sing sweetly in your ears.0 -
Like tigger says if they are pets which I would class them as. Then the only sticking point is the cost of upkeep which the OR will give you some allowance for with the rest being for you to find but if the gran is willing to pay the rest of the upkeep then it's not a problemHi, im Debtinfo, i am an ex insolvency examiner and over the years have personally dealt with thousands of bankruptcy cases.

I went BR in May and suffice to say my OR showed an absolutely gobsmacking ignorance about anything horse related. Be prepared to spell things out in words of less than one syllable....
ETA - oh and if you go with the suggestion of saying that they are your Gran's horses, be aware that the OR will not allow you ANY allowance towards their costs - because they are not your horses.....
Sorry I should have said - if you have any questions please do drop me a PM

Why don't you register their passports in your gran's name? With the age of them and the health issues, I'd assume that you're not planning on selling them, so it kind of doesn't matter who's on the passports.
To all intents and purposes, your gran pays for them and you do the work, so I don't really feel it's lying to have them as her horses that you care for."Most of the people ... were unhappy... Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movements of small green pieces of paper, which is odd because on the whole it wasn't the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy." -- Douglas Adams0 -
do you pay any of the cost for thes horses upkeep, from the sound of it your gran pays everything, and you do the mucking out etc as a good grandaughter would, espically in times where familes need to pull together! xxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0

IMO, from the OR's POV, it wouldn't be worth the hassle of reclaiming, however in the circumstances described, it would appear that your grandmother owns the horses.
Take care however, as (I think was) mentioned above, the OR can order the destruction of livestock, but not of pets.

We had the issue with kids ponies. Its not the point of them being an asset thats important given they are considered pets, its the cost of the upkeep. Shoeing every 6 weeks, livery, vets bills etc can be like a small mortgage. Not sure a OR would contemplate these as reasonable costs and may ask you look to sell the ponies if someone else isnt willing to fund this. How that happens is a grey area though as its not that easy to give a pony away, let alone sell one at the moment. In your position I would just let it run, pop you relations name on the passports and carry on as it is, given you arent funding anything, so it wont affect your SOA.0

And you can't say they are your Grans as you bought them with your money, she didn't buy them so doesn't own them.
I seem to remember an OR having an issue with a posters horse in the last year but can't find the posts at the moment. Though as you have said you don't pay for the upkeep then you shouldn't have too many problems but be aware that some ORs may want to sell them for the money. You are just going to have to suck it and see though you do have a case for keeping them. Just explain in words of one syllable as APs post their condition, age etc. don't forget that horses probably don't come across an ORs desk, so to speak, very often.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0
