Does anyone know if going ex-directory, and 118 only stops the international nuisance phone calls?
Considering doing this as we get at least 6 per day and it is very annoying, let alone the silent calls.
Thanks for your help - in anticipation!!

Being XD makes absolutely no difference. They use automatic random diallers, not phone books.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

How on earth do you manage to get 6 international calls trying to sell you something every day?
I extremely rarely get any such calls and I mean very rarely because I cannot even remember the last one.
Being ex-directory, both phone book and directory enquiries can prevent UK companies pestering you because some of them do use the phone book and pick names. They have been shown to do this!
Reputable companies cannot/should not do it if you are registered with TPS. However some companies do ignore it.0 -
I used to swamped with nuisance calls some of which came from abroad despite being registered with TPS. I tried going ex-directory but it didn't help.
I got truecall and I love it! Got rid of all the annoying calls0 -

Lucky you!! I got 6 calls in a 3 hour spell on Tuesday morning - all of which were "we don't have the callers number....." when I used 1471.We even had 3 calls of that type on Saturday evening!!
It does vary tho' - for instance, haven't had a call since Wednesday morning.
@Herongull - do you still get the calls ?- but the Truecall prevents them getting thru'-OR have they actually given up??0 -

As far as I know, Truecall is blocking all the annoying calls, but letting the genuine ones through ok. It works fine on unknown callers - it just asks them for their name/company name, and dodgy callers seem to give up at this point, whereas normal people give it their name and then it phones you to ask if you want to take the call.
If the number is known, then Truecall can put them straight through if they are on your whitelist or block them if you've blacklisted them.0
