50.00 back just for asking....

Hi all,

I am with Santander, and have run the account in question very well with no problems until I stupidly forgot to move two of my DD's to the account I changed my wages into, thus incurring two 25.00 bank charegs fro unpaid DD's .

I called the bank to ask when these charges would be debited, but also as one was for a 1.27 DD said I was not happy to pay 25.00 for such a small DD etc and politely requested they waiver that charge. To my surprise the young lady offered me 50.00 straightaway as it was my first issue on that account. Just thought I would mention this as it pays to ask. :)

Just be aware they can't refund any more for the life of that account.

Majority of banks will refund for a first time offense, if you ask nicely. Its like everything else, you don't ask, you don't get.

She actually said they can only offer a refund once per year per account.

It's not typically a calendar year either, the wording is usually that they'll give a refund as long as you have had no refunded charges in the past 365 days.
  • Santander seem to be good in offering refunds for charges. I sat down with an advisor at the beginning of the year and went right through my accounts looking for charges. He found a load from when I had a few cheques issues. So in about 15 mins we had £275 in charges refunded and me very smiley!!!

Always ask, we told my partners sister to ask and she got £60+ back straight away.
