current account for sixth former

Hi there,

My daughter is 16 (17 next month) and wants a current account with a debit card - any suggestions on good ones .... or ones to avoid?

We have branches of Halifax, Lloyds, HSBC, Barclays, Natwest, Nationwide & Santander locally.

Nationwide every time. May only be a basic flexaccount but will allow proper money management.

  • We got OHs DD an account with HSBC. Partly coz it was handy! They had it opened in a matter of minutes, debit card was with her within a few days. No overdraft facility.

I did a bit of research before we went with HSBC, and they're all much of a muchness. None of them will give an overdraft and none of them really give interest either for that age of person.

My 16 year old recently opened an account with Nationwide, applied online for a flexaccount, but got a cash debit card, she has online banking, wages are paid in etc, very good.
