Completely painless procedure, I genuinely never felt a thing. Now I'm totally pain free.
I'm still wearing dressings as the healing progress is slow.
I wish I hadn't been such a wimp about having them removed I would have been pain-free much sooner.
Ask the doc to refer her to a podiatrist once the infection has cleared.
ETA: I had to wait 18 weeks to see the podiatrist and another 10 to have the op. Therefore the sooner the better to be referred.
Painless? Do you mean the procedure itself or the healing process afterwards. I can honestly say that I was in agony for 6 months, even to the point of going to A&E and begging them to do something!!0 -
I would suggest soaking in hot water with some salt or dettol, and afterwards dry carefully and get a cotton bud, clean out any gunk and gently slip it under the nail to gently pry it away from the toe. hopefully the antibiotics will work their magic soon. I would also suggest getting her to wear as loose shoes as possible, as when I had it, wearing school shoes were impossible and I had to wear sandals or (crocks would prob be OK).0

I mean completely painless, no pain whatsoever.
Not even the mild infection in one of my toes caused pain, only minor discomfort.
I suffered more with the effects of the antibiotics. That was not a pleasant fortnight /three weeks for me  The doc has suggested that if I ever need antibiotics again I should have them intravenously thus bypassing my digestive system.I'm not that way reclined
Jewelry? Seriously? Sheldon you are the most shallow, self-centered person I have ever met. Do you really think that another transparently-manipu... OH, IT'S A TIARA! A tiara; I have a tiara! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me!0 -
I've had all 10 nails taken off, - what they did with me was do 3 toes in 1 go on the one foot - the most panful bit was the injection, - it was 3 jabs, but i didn't feel a thing, had some acid type paint to kill the nail - within 30 mns my feet were normal, i dressings for 2 days then plasters.
I would def see someone else, as others have mentioned the nail grows but if you haven't caught it, it grows in the toe - not here to scare monger, but its better to get it treated properly once then have to go through antibiotics etc. xxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
I have had ingrowing toe nails on both of my gig toes. One doctor dealt with a re accuring ingrowing toe nail buy cutting of the sides of the toe. i mean the flesh part. This was done under local aneathestic (sp) which did not take effect so had 4 nurses holding me down as I was screaming as he was 'just cleaning it' . It was very painful and became infected. They were considering amputating my toe but my father said no. My father got me to soak it warm salted regularly and it killed the infection. Antibiotics weren't working. My other big toe nail was also a nightmare. Went to A@E after month of pain. The doctor just cut the sides of the nail, used a chemical and it has never given me a problem after 25 years.
Kill the infection and find the right person to do what you want and that is to keep the nail without major segery is my advice. As said before by another poster dip the foot in a bath/bowl of warm salted water for at least 30 min and keep it clean..That should help with the infection. mine was bad enough that i cut my trainers off so the toe wasn't under pressure, but I guess thats something you can,'t do when your still at school. Maybe sandles with a steel toe cap( only joking)0 -
Had the left great toenail off last year. It was painful and slow to heal.
Had part of the right great toe nail off four weeks ago. Worst part for me is the numbing process. I metabolize the freezing solution incredibly fast. This last time, I had nine jabs to the area of the great toe. It impressed the student podiatrists no end, you could follow the frozen veins in my foot. My podiatrist chemically kills the nail root.
He also wants you to soak the foot in a vinegar and water solution. He said the acid in the vinegar pretty much kills most bacteria that comes in contact with the feet.
No antibiotics this time.0
