There are also a number of somewhat dodgy companies out there who take an engine out of a scrap car give it a clean and a lick of paint and flog it on as a cheap recon engine.
A couple of our club members have been duped by this kind of scam.0 -

The price you paid would have been for a 2nd hand engine, and as such is deemed as used. there are no warranties applied or given unless stated at point of purchase. The term "Sold as Seen" usually describes a 2nd hand car.... this term only "really" applies when a car is sold by a member of the public in a private sale (not from a dealers - registered or forecourt) or if the car is sold for an amount of less than £1000. (and is thereby subject to immediate depreciation)
duly ignore this post. inaccurate to say the least.0 -

So what about some of these engines who warp their heads then where you are advised not to use a 2nd hand head and not to skim a head but completely replace it?
Yes there are kits for some engines, for others there are a whole load of new troubles brewing by people who've replaced a gasket and used the same or another 2nd hand and warped head.
Been there and done that.. lost the car for it :mad:0 -

all modern engines are alu heads and tend to warp when overheated, they can be skimmed, and skimmed again, as long you dont skim down so much as to let the valves interfear with the pistons, and the combustion chamber is compremised so much it will increase the compression so and make things go bang and even then ive known garages to skim the pistons and lower the copression ratio in that scenario and have no trouble in the vehicle after.0
