Amazon Prime **BEWARE**

Amazon shoppers beware!
If you use Amazon please be aware they are charging people for a yearly subscription to Amazon Prime, which is Free next day Delivery on purchases. My husband hardly ever uses Amazon but did at the beginning August only to be stung on 18/09/2012 with a £49 debit from his bank account!!
After moaning at him for not taking more care when ordering online he tells me that he didnt have to select a delivery option as the item already came with free delivery, with that I checked the order. Sure enough the item already had Free delivery, so Amazon Prime would never have been needed! Therefore it was not down to my husband for this yearly subscription to something that we didnt want.
After calling Amazon they were happy to refund the money, not really putting up any argument.
After speaking with my mother-in-law just after I had made the phone call to Amazon I learned that the same thing had happened to her... Coincedence?... Im not so sure.
Make sure you check your bank statement/ Credit card statements, if you order from Amazon!!
I have a feeling that this is happening to alot of people and its going unnoticed!

Prime has been something they've been doing for a while and many hardcore Amazon customers seem to find it of great benefit to them for free & fast delivery.

Amazon have always been very good and very misunderstanding about the fact people can and will not read properly when signing up or simply do so in error - so long as you haven't used it they usually refund you - and if you have used it the refund is usually proportionate.

Is it a coincidence? No... you both clicked to sign up to it.

Amazon aren't doing anything wrong. Many Amazon customers use it to their advantage, if they buy lots of stuff, paying the £49 saves them money on postage. The option NOT to use their Prime Member service is clearly shown on their website, you just need to read how it works.

Maybe a good idea to check your husbands purchases in future before he clicks "confirm" ?

There is free delivery but it is open and not hidden. Prime is neary £50 so a bit hard to notice that it's not for a one off next day delivery. The checkout clearly states delivery options, which you can choose next day delivery for a small charge, free is always around 5 days. There is nothing to stop you ignoring prime it's not a hidden charge that people can easily be fooled into buying.
  • Perhaps this should be in praise, vent and warnings.

You have to click for a free trial of prime which includes details of the cost if you continue it past the trial period.

Nothing wrong here, except people not reading what they are signing up to.

Hmmmm. It's not Amazon that needs a warning - It's your Husband, clearly!
The Prime membership does not pretend to be free. I presuem your husband READ the terms and conditions that he signed up to?

Also OP, you can see that Amazon are quite open about allowing you to cancel the service if you are yet to use it.

    From their faqs...
Can I cancel my membership to Amazon Prime?

You can cancel your membership in Your Account at any time before you or your registered guests have made any eligible purchases and we will refund your full membership fee.
Why would they put up an argument? ;)

At a guess it sounds like they've signed up for a trial of Prime and not cancelled it.

Its an option offered when you order if you are not already a member, it allows you to start a 1 month trial and get that order you are making delivered next day for free.

Its NOT covert, its NOT hidden, its very obvious what it is.

I personally find my Prime membership is worth every penny, especially around Christmas time...

I looooove Prime. Saves me and my hubby loads every year when places like argos/tesco/john lewis will charge you through the nose for even 'standard' delivery

    Nuns! Nuns! Reverse!

'I do my job, do you do yours?'

  • This should be in a positive forum, there is nothing to warn about. Your husband signed up for Amazon Prime and agreed to the terms of conditions. Amazon are well within their right to offer you diddly squat but they refunded you with no issues.

In my opinion, Amazon's customer support is probably the best I've ever come across in the UK.
