I have an old PC (8 years old) that needs a new power supply. Are there different types or is there only one universal type which I buy. I am not sure as some online stores have specific types and I am not sure what to look for on my old PSU.
My make is:
FSP350-60 MDN Rev. A
W/PFC
Thanks.

Most modern PSU's should work fine with a computer of that age, the only exception may be Dell (sometimes wired differently!). The newer PSU's tend to have more connections than the older ones due to increased power requirements, so all you have to do is leave those disconnected and plug in the main motherboard power.
Having looked up that PSU it looks like a standard ATX supply.
Something like this should do:

As long as its similar in rating to the old one then you're fine. You could go for slightly higher spec if you prefer, just make sure it has multiple 'molex' connectors as these will be standard in that age of PC:

Don't get Casecom. PSU is the 'heard' of your PC. If you use cheap one, there is a risk of it blow all your hardware when it gone.

Check out user reviews before buying as some psu's are very noisy. A decent one may cost a few pounds more but it will be worth it.0

Never ever buy a cheapo PSU for your PC, they tend to fail easy and when they do, it takes the whole pc with it more often than not. If your budget is tight then I recommend this...
Cool Master GX Lite 500W
Can't post links but the site is overclockers dot co dot uk
PS those ebuyer PSU links do not buy any of them as they are cheap and nasty.0 -
This is for the pc that you are planning to replace and throw away at any moment?
Why does it need a new psu?
Cheapo PSU's are fine btw, spending excessive amounts of money on a psu which costs more than the machine is worth isn't realistic.!!

Sorry mate but I disagree, cheapo supplies are nasty. Also no PSU unit is more expensive than a whole pc, mine cost £230 but my whole pc (which I built) cost £1300.
Nobody is suggesting buying an expensive one but, spending a tenner on one is foolish. The one I mentioned earlier is fine and its not expensive.0 -
I have 2 Pc's. My internet (which PSU failed) and my Music Studio PC. When the internet PSU failed, I replaced it with the music PSU as I need the net all the time. But I also need to get working on my music ASAP hence why I am looking. I know I have posted about replacing the internet PC on another thread but for now I am going to cope as I can't make a decision on what to buy.0

So why are Ebuyer selling this if it's crap ? The reviews are good arn't they ?

There's a strange snobbery and mythology grown up around psu's, especially amongst people who like to build their own machines.
I've installed plenty of "cheap n nasty" as Darth puts it, even cheaper and nastier than the one linked to, and they have never failed, they may fail tomorrow, but so may a £230 one!!

The only issue with the cheap ones is that they usually do not provide the stated power. I doubt this will be a problem for the OP's pc since it doesn't sound like he's running a power hungry graphics card or anything.0
