Unemployed Partner Moving in With Me - Tax Credits

My partner has lost his job and is planning to move in with me. I believe I can add him to my claim as I am a carer in receipt of carers allowance and receive DLA on behalf of my older son.

I believe I will still get income support/carers allowance etc but will need to make a new application for tax credits. I realise I will not receive any tax credits while this claim is being assessed but I am wondering if anyone knows how the fact that he was earning (about £13k per annum, minimum wage) will affect this new application for tax credits. Is it likely the money I was receiving as a single parent will be reduced even though my partner is not working now? Its a litle difficult figuring how to manage during this assessment period and not having a clue how things will change once the application has been assessed.

I have filled in the tax credit calculator but it doesn't take into account past earnings in the current tax year. Maybe they aren't relevant?

Shouldn't affect your tax credits as you'll only be getting CTC, and the income taper for CTC only claims starts at about £16k (ie earn below £16k and you get max CTC).

If he gets a job and starts claiming WTC then his previous earnings this tax year will affect WTC.

I'm pretty sure you won't get IS, but instead you'll probably be able to claim income based JSA at the couple rate (even if he's getting contribution based JSA now, the income based will top it up).
