Not moneysaving but can someone help me with a question about life in the RN?

As, for example, a naval officer, for how long are you out to sea, for how long are you at home base, etc? How is the work/life balance when you have a family? Long periods of absence? I know there is probably somewhere that divulges this information but I can't find it, d'oh.

Hello - the navy's own website, or armed forces careers websites will be a good starting point. It depends mainly on which branch/specialism, some away loads ( particularly early on after initial training), some much less. Lots of RN folk have served ( of are currently serving) in Afghanistan, it's not all about sea. Lots were at the Olympics, too!Mortgage Free thanks to ill-health retirement0

As said above it really depends what specialisation you want to be. As a Warfare Officer you will spend most of your time on Ship/Submarine, but as a Logistics Officer not so much and same again as Flight.0
