Plumbing size help

I need to buy a new shower head (and hose) for a mixer style tap.

I've seen one that says BSP connector 1/2".

I'm not sure which bit of the hose I need to measure. I've measured the bit on the hose itself which is a nut with the screw on threads, and that measures 21mmm so about 3/4", however the thread part which is on the taps measures about 15mm so about 1/2".

Which measurement do I use?

Thanks

The second (ie 1/2"), you could always buy a new hose at the same time to make absolutely sure.

  • just get a new shower head & hose they will be the right size so you don't need to measure anything they are all the same, the only thing you need to watch is that it fits into your riser rail or whatever you have the shower head sat in

I made that mistake once, never again. The difference was small but it meant the shower head kept rising with the force of the pressure therefore putting water where it wasnt wanted.

I advised to buy a new hose because the washers become distorted to the old fixing or perished to the point of leaking and for the sake of £10 then it all look spanking new.

Yes they are all ½" BSP and thats the internal measurement of the connector. The "nut" on the LHS of krisd's image. Its nothing to do with the hose.

Sometimes its just as cheap to buy a new riser with the whole lot (riser, hose and head) in one package.

    Cheers
