Tricky: insurance for frequent absentee

I have a problem arranging home insurance at the moment.
I have a holiday place in France and I travel quite frequently, so I'm often away for more than the 30 days stated in most insurance contracts.
I've currently been told I should get empty house insurance, and then change the policy every time I'm home... that seems over the top.
Any ideas? I don't really want insurance to put the kybosh on my travelling - I worked bl**dy hard so I could get a bit of long haul travel done in my 50s! It might be better to rent the place out I suppose, but then I lose the flexibility.

Speak to a broker like Home Protect or Towergate. You won't able to obtain a standard policy, so can't arrange online. You need to provide details to a broker and they will arrange a tailored policy, which may be more expensive and contain more t&c's.
Another thought is that SAGA will also cater for this type of situation. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -
I think Hiscox are 60 days, on their standard policy.0

Try Saga if you qualify0

RIAS is 60 days consecutively.
Even if you are not over 50 you could try RIAS or Saga if their terms are favorable.0 -
The mid net worth policies (like Hiscox 505) are going to be more setup for this sort of thing. Whilst the general cover tends to be much better too (eg all risks rather than specified perils) the price does reflect it.0

Thanks - I will try the insurers you've suggested. I'm coming up for 50 so Saga might be a good option.0
